Congratulations on a wonderful 60 years. So much has been done to keep the most beautiful parts of the British Isles safe from the excesses of mankind, yet giving access to all who care to discover them.
Maretta Jerrett
Congratulations on 60 years of keeping the wild places wild. Good luck with the next 60 where things will always be changing. The people who live in National Parks will need your support to run sustainable, environment enhancing businesses so they can afford to look after your/their landscapes.

Congratulations - truly a special event and a fine achievement for the nation. How forward-looking of our forefathers to create such a wonderful legacy. Let us make sure that we don't squander or corrupt their foresight and vision!
Mark Hambridge
Only 60 years young! Plenty of campaigning still to do, to keep the National Parks beautiful.

Isn't our countryside heritage just wonderful! And aren't our national parks a real blessing to us all - even the thought of a beautiful scene lifts me and encourages me.

Your memories

From Maretta Jerrett
This photo is circa 1960 when I was 11 was taken by my Dad on a wild, wet afternoon in July at Castell y Gwynt on the Glyders (Snowdonia National Park). Our family summer camps in Gwynant valley, at the start of the holidays were the highspot of the year.
Maretta Jerrett
The first time we came to the Peak District, from the Uttoxeter direction, through Thorpe - it felt like going through the back of the wardrobe! We entered a completely different world (like Narnia). The air was different, the colours were softer, more natural but brighter, sounds were softer and brighter. Buildings and spaces were respected - we just felt that it was a human place, a place to breathe.
Sue Prince
One Saturday in July 1987: running the Moel Siabod fell race, coming 5th out of 88, one of my most satisfying performances in a fell race. Then cycling slowly back to my accommodation near Bethesda, the huge bulk of Tryfan dominating the view.
I couldn't resist it, I just had to park the bike (at about 5.30pm) and scramble up the ridge, down to the col below the Glyders and back round the side to pick up the bike, still with plenty of time to cycle down the Nant Ffrancon in daylight.
