ENPAA welcomes Government announcement on funding for National Park Authorities

The Government has announced a new three year financial settlement for England’s National Park Authorities. Despite a very difficult financial climate, the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, Hilary Benn MP and his ministerial team have awarded NPAs an inflation linked increase in Budgets.
The total amount given to National Park Authorities from Defra will be:
£46.2 million in 2008/09;
£47.5 million in 2009/10; and
£48.8 million in 2010/11.
In a letter to the Chairmen of the nine National Park Authorities, Jonathan Shaw MP (Minister for Marine, Landscape and Rural Affairs) says “I have always attached a huge value to the National Parks…during my visits I have been greatly impressed by the impact that your Authorities are having across a whole range of important issues”.
National Park Authorities have demonstrated how they successfully lever in additional funding for projects. And the work undertaken by the Council for National Parks in collaboration with three NPAs has shown the significant economic benefits that come from maintaining a high quality environment.
ENPAA’s Chairman has written to the Minister, Jonathan Shaw MP to thank him and his colleagues for their continued support.
