We are in a dynamic situation, with increasing opportunities to work in a collaborative way. Practice is evolving and influencing the agenda. The big picture of the curriculum has changed due to learning outside the classroom manifesto, sustainable schools framework and climate change; and locally community strategies and targets aligned with funding are making a difference.

Our challenge is to take outdoor learning from being an enhancement activity to meeting real educational needs.

To do this we need to engage at strategy level, understand joint agendas, reframe plans accordingly, evaluate impacts, ensure ongoing quality and fair access, and translate impact into data.

As well as this, we still need the time and enthusiasm to keep on doing and developing the things that we know are right – even though they are not in strategic plans now, they may well be in the future…
