ABOUT US

Northumberland National Park has three visitor centres at Once Brewed, Rothbury and Ingram. Our friendly and knowledgeable Visitor Centres staff can advise you on where to go in the area, providing you with information on places to visit, things to do, where to stay and special events that can be booked in advance.

Once Brewed is located close to Hadrian’s Wall, World Heritage Site. Many walkers on the Pennine Way and Hadrian’s Wall Trails visit this Centre – often staying at the Youth Hostel next door. The Centre also operates as a Tourist Information Centre where accommodation bookings can be made. The Centre also provides inspiring interpretive displays, free internet access for you to pick up your emails or send e-postcards. Local products, maps, local guide books, sweatshirts and spare walking socks can be purchased. There is also a bus stop for the Hadrian’s Wall Bus – No. AD122 allowing you to park and ride and to take in the breathtaking scenery.

Rothbury is situated in the centre of this picturesque market town and is an ideal base for exploring the National Park, Heritage Coast, Kielder Water and Hadrian’s Wall. Nearby walks take in the Simonside Hills and Lordenshaws, where you will find the famous ‘cup and ring’ markings on stones. The National Trust property of Cragside, set amongst beautiful gardens and woodland is a must for those who enjoy visiting historic houses. This centre offers free internet access, inspiring interpretation displays  or you can relax and watch a DVD about the national park. The centre also operates as a Tourist Information Centre offering accommodation bookings. The staff are on hand to offer help and advise to enable you to get the most out of your visit.

Ingram is situated in the Breamish Valley at the foot of the Cheviot Hills. This newly refurbished centre has some fascinating displays, beautiful artefacts which have been the culmination of the past ten years of archaeological digs in the valley. It is an ideal base for starting out on a number of hill walks, many taking in the ancient hill fort settlements. Alternatively you could spend time exploring the valley, picnicking beside the river or walking up to Linhope Spout to see the beautiful waterfall. The staff can help you plan your visit or browse the many leaflets available. A wide range of gifts, maps, guide books and basic refreshments can be purchased here.
