The picturesque Esk Valley Railway operating between Middlesbrough and Whitby takes you right into the heart of the National Park. Stops include

The North York Moors Railway offers steam train rides from Pickering to Whitby

Coastliner buses operate between Leeds, Tadcaster, York and Heworth and the resorts of Whitby, Scarborough, Filey and Bridlington on the East Coast.
Local buses
Arriva buses operate in the northern area of the North York Moors including Stokesley, Great Ayton and coastal services linking Middlesbrough, Guisborough, Whitby and Scarborough.
East Yorkshire Motor Services (known as Scarborough and District bus company in North Yorkshire) runs local buses in Hull, East Yorkshire, the North Yorkshire coast and the North York Moors

Cycle
Moors To Sea - This 80-mile cycle route links Scarborough, Pickering and Whitby. It also includes a link from Great Ayton to Whitby via the Esk Valley.
Walney to Wear and Whitby - You can now cycle coast to coast from Walney Island in Cumbria to Whitby via Tan Hill, thanks to the opening of Regional Route 52 between Barnard Castle and the historic North Yorkshire port.
There's also great cycling around Rosedale and along the White Rose Cycle Route which follows the River Ouse and quiet roads in the Vale of York to the foothills of the North York Moors National Park
