Recreation and Responsibility Seminar

14 November 2008 at the International Pavilion, Royal Welsh Showground, Builth Wells

Agenda

The three National Parks in Wales were asked by the Welsh Assembly Government to coordinate a seminar on the issue of managing sustainable use of the coast and countryside of Wales - we all understand the need to get more people out and active but how do we make sure that we are not damaging the places we are charged to protect?

This free seminar was funded by the National Park Authorities and welcomed staff from a wide variety of organisations with an interest in sustainable recreation in the rural environment. Site and beach managers, rangers and wardens, tourism promotion staff who wish to market in a sustainable way and operators who are making use of the countryside for their clients were invited. Around 60 professional attended the seminar.

The day provided the opportunity to share experience. Senior speakers from the Welsh Assembly Government and the Countryside Council for Wales gave an overview and feedback from recent WAG funded practical initiatives linked to the Wales Environment Strategy. It also provided professionals with a chance to link up with colleagues both directly in their areas of work and in related disciplines.

A report, along with presentations made on the day are available via the links provided in the left hand side.
