Background
Hilary was born in Sussex and studied painting and printmaking at Brighton School of Art and then at Central St Martin’s College of Art in London. After graduating she spent five years as a visiting art lecturer before moving to Greece where she lived for the next 11 years.
Her first solo exhibition was presented by the British Council in Athens in 1973. Many more were to follow, both in Greece and back in the UK. Hilary’s work has also been included in group exhibitions including at:

- Hamburg International Print Fair, Germany
- The British Council, Delhi
- The National Arts Club, New York

In 1987 Hilary was elected to the Royal Society of Painter-Printmakers.
Exmoor escape
In 1982 Hilary moved with her husband and two sons to live in Exmoor – and she’s lived and worked there ever since.
Her latest paintings and prints are the result of flying over Exmoor in a small plane. It revealed the impact man has had on the landscape, from burial mounds and standing stones to the evidence of more recent times.
Print making
Hilary is a member of the Somerset Printmakers who recently chose to make prints inspired by the Exmoor-influenced poet, Samuel Taylor Coleridge. Hilary chose the poem Frost At Midnight for the source of her print.
